about

The byōbu are japanese screens made of several parts. They usually are painted, and are generally designed in pairs. The screen allows to create separations, to protect from drafts and looks, to attenuate light, which can also be reflected by the screen's bright surface. The byōbu offers the possibility to interestingly reassemble the space of a room.

This drone music diptych was created with voices and sounds from field recordings. It can be listened to as a sound byōbu that would unfold as played. Through this unfolding, a search for an articulation between the themes of isolation and liberation. Unfolding Byōbu invites to contemplate mental and physical space, to try to poetically transform the substance of isolation and loneliness into a source of reflection and emancipation.
